This private and customizable tour for Hakone City (in Kanagawa Prefecture) is perfect for guests who would like to have their own itinerary planned based on their interests and preferences on the first day and allowing guests to experience the city at their own pace on the second day.

• Explore Hakone and enjoy views of Mt. Fuji on this private 2-day, 1-night experience from Tokyo. On the first day, you will explore Hakone with an English-speaking guide, with the itinerary tailored to your interests. Highlights may include a cruise on Lake Ashi, a ride on the Mt. Komagatake Ropeway overlooking Hakone National Park, and a walk along the historic Old Tokaido Road.
• After a full day of guided sightseeing, enjoy an overnight stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan. On the second day, guests are free to explore Hakone independently using the Hakone Free Pass before returning to Tokyo. Sightseeing on both days is subject to weather and seasonal conditions.

Tour Time

Day 1 – Guided Tour in Hakone

• Public Transportation: Meet your tour guide between 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM
• Private Vehicle: Meet your tour guide between 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

The exact meeting time and location will be confirmed after booking.
Tour duration on Day 1 includes travel time between Tokyo and Hakone.

After the guided tour on Day 1, guests will check in and stay overnight at a ryokan in Hakone.

Day 2 – Self-Guided Exploration

• No tour guide is included on Day 2.
• Guests explore Hakone independently using the Hakone Free Pass and return to Tokyo at their own pace.

Hotel Information

Accommodation will be a traditional Japanese ryokan featuring tatami-mat rooms with futon bedding.
The standard accommodation included in this tour is a 3-star ryokan. For guests who wish to upgrade to a 4- or 5-star hotel or ryokan, additional charges will apply. Please inquire at the time of booking.

Private Tour

This private tour is for a group of 8 or less people. For a larger group, we may have two tour guides present (depending on availability).

Payment

All bookings are payable via Stripe (Booking Checkout) or Flywire. Confirmations regarding your booking will be sent at least 10 days before your activity date.

Cancellation Policy

How does the room at the ryokan work if I have children?

Children will stay in the same room as the adults. Ryokan rooms are typically set up with futon bedding on tatami mats.
If you require additional futons or specific bedding arrangements, please let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Is smoking allowed at the ryokan?

All guest rooms at the ryokan are non-smoking. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available for guests who wish to smoke.

How far in advance should I book?

Hakone is a popular destination from Tokyo. We recommend making a reservation as early as possible and ideally, at least a month in advance.

When is it Peak Season and what does that mean for this tour?

There are many peak seasons in Hakone, but it is especially busy during Autumn as Hakone is one of the most beautiful locations of Japan to view autumn foliage. During peak season, there will be heavy traffic on the roads and may take two to three times the duration to travel between locations by bus at Hakone.

Other peak holidays include Golden Week (late April to early May), the Obon Holidays (August 11th to 20th), and the New Year Holidays (December 28th – January 6th).
