An English interpreter supports the evening, helping guests learn more about geisha culture and take part in conversations and activities. Geisha participating in the experience may come from Tokyo hanamachi districts including Asakusa, Shinbashi, Mukoujima or Omori Kaigan.

Private experiences are available for groups of any size, with pricing based on the number of guests. Please check the booking calendar for current pricing and availability.
Both Join-in and Private experiences are normally arranged with 2 Geishas. In the rare case that only one Geisha can be secured, our team will contact you in advance regarding the adjusted arrangement and any applicable price adjustment.

Greetings
Arrive at the ryotei, meet the English-speaking host and settle in before the evening begins.
Introduction to Geisha
As the meal begins, the interpreter introduces the culture and history surrounding the geisha tradition.
Geisha Performance
Enjoy traditional dance and music performed by the geisha.
Q&A & Traditional Games
Ask questions about geisha life and take part in traditional Japanese games together.
Conversation with Geisha
Spend time in conversation with the geisha, with support from the English interpreter.
Photos & Farewell
Take commemorative photos and conclude the evening.
Good to Know
Age Requirement
The dinner experience is for guests ages 6 and up. Younger children cannot normally be accommodated, although an exception may be possible for private events.
Seating
Chair seating is provided by default unless otherwise specified.
Attire
There is no formal dress code. Guests are kindly asked to dress respectfully; smart casual or traditional attire is welcome.
Non-Smoking
All seats are non-smoking. Designated smoking areas are available outside.
Required Geisha Form
After booking, a link to the Geisha Form will be sent within 24 hours. Please complete it accurately at least 10 days before your tour date.
Geisha & Venue Arrangements
Depending on final group size and availability, especially during peak season, a Join-in event may feature one geisha. The venue may also change depending on availability and group size.
Booking & Cancellation
Join-in Booking Confirmation
The Join-in dinner is a shared group experience. Each booking requires a minimum of 2 guests, while the event requires a minimum of 6 to 8 total guests combined across all bookings to proceed.
If the required total participant count is not reached, you will be contacted to reschedule for an alternative date or receive a full refund.
Payment
Bookings are payable via Stripe (Booking Checkout) or Flywire.

What is a geisha?
Geisha are professional entertainers who dedicate years to mastering traditional arts such as singing, dancing and playing musical instruments. They traditionally entertain guests during dining gatherings at establishments such as ryotei and ryokan.
Geisha culture has been part of Japanese history since the Edo period and remains a highly traditional and exclusive world. Traditionally, arranging the services of a geisha often requires an introduction or referral through an existing customer or venue. This experience offers guests an opportunity to encounter this cultural tradition through dining, performance and conversation.
What is the difference between geisha, geiko, hangyoku and maiko?
Geisha are fully trained professional entertainers. In Kyoto, professional geisha are commonly known as geiko.
Hangyoku are apprentice geisha in Tokyo, while maiko is the term commonly used for apprentices in Kyoto. Apprentices are still in training, whereas professional geisha have spent years developing their skills in traditional performance and entertainment.
An apprentice may occasionally be introduced during an event together with a senior professional geisha.
